Invitation to nominate candidates

This prize, awarded at EBSA congresses, is aimed at early stage independent researchers. Member Societies are invited to nominate candidates for this prize, with the winner:

  • receiving 2000 EUR and a medal
  • presenting a lecture at the Congress
  • expected to contribute an article to the European Biophysics Journal (either a review or original article).

Under normal conditions, it is a condition of being awarded the Prize, that the Awardee attends the congress in the year that the Prize is awarded. Free registration for the congress, and two nights accommodation only will be provided.

The prize is attributed to an independent researcher, normally within 12 years from PhD at the time the prize is given, although allowance will be made for any career breaks such as maternity leave or compulsory military service. Candidates should be working in one of the Member countries. Nominations (at most 2 pages long) by the National Societies (only one nomination from any society) should be sent to the EBSA Secretary.

Nominations for EBSA 2025 are no longer being accepted.

An invitation to member societies to submit nominations for the EBSA2027 congress will be sent out in 2026. This page will be updated with the relevant information and specific details of how to submit nominations.

The nomination form should be supplemented by the Nominee’s CV (not exceeding 2 pages), List of Publications, and reprints of maximum 3 publications. The decision will be made by the Executive Committee based on scientific excellence, leadership and creativity, with the possibility to call in external reviewers.
