SUMMARY:The non-equilibrium genome - where Physics meets Biology
DESCRIPTION:Dresden\, Germany. \nBiological function relies on coordinated cell behavior\, driven by molecular processes involving DNA in the cell nucleus. The 3D genome refers to the hierarchical and organized packing of the meter-long DNA into the nucleus. The 1D genome refers to the functional roles of DNA regions and epigenetic modifications (like methylation) that form a non-equilibrium\, dynamic code. The goal of the workshop is to present the mechanisms by which 1D and 3D processes are integrated together\, and the consequent emergence of complex spatio-temporal structures in the tight nuclear environment. \n

DESCRIPTION:Online. \nWe are delighted to announce Prof. Ana García-Sáez as a speaker in our next yEBSA scientific seminar. Below you’ll find information about the speaker. We look forward to learn about her exciting research and her career path in biophysics. \nProf. Ana García-Sáez is director of the department of Membrane Dynamics at the prestigious Max Planck Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt am Main\, Germany. At this institute\, she leads a group conducting cutting-edge biophysical research investigating the early steps of programmed cell death by mitochondria – processes of major relevance to biology and medicine. Her team combines advanced imaging approaches\, including super-resolution microscopy\, transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. In addition\, she developed AI-based algorithms to analyze biophysical datasets and characterize pore structures in the outer mitochondrial membrane.\nOver the course of her career\, Prof. García-Sáez has received numerous distinctions\, including recognition as an EMBO Young Investigator and as a Henriette Herz Scout of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation\, and she has been awarded multiple grants from the European Research Council (ERC). \nThe seminar will take place on Friday 24th of April 2026. SUMMARY:International Symposium on Flowing droplets Where Fluid Mechanics and Rheology meet Soft Matter for Industrial applications
DESCRIPTION:Naples\, Italy. \nThe International Symposium on Flowing Droplets: Where Fluid Mechanics and Rheology meet Soft Matter for Industrial applications will take place in Naples (Italy) from April 26 to 29\, 2026 under the auspices of the Department of Chemical\, Materials and Production Engineering of the University of Napoli Federico II and of the Italian National Interuniversity Consortium of Materials Science and Technology (INSTM). The symposium will address fundamental and applied aspects of droplet flow behaviour\, with emphasis on deformation\, breakup\, and coalescence phenomena in both dilute and concentrated systems. Particular attention will be given to the role of hydrodynamic interactions\, interfacial properties\, and external fields in governing droplet behaviour. The symposium will also encompass complex droplet systems\, including biological\, multiphase\, and active droplets\, where additional physicochemical and dynamical couplings give rise to novel flow responses. The symposium aims to bring together participants from several disciplines\, including physics\, chemistry\, biology and engineering\, who share a common interest in the experimental and theoretical aspects of the flow behaviour of droplets and its applications.
