DESCRIPTION:Online. \nThis yEBSA Scientific seminar will feature a talk by Prof. Antonio José da Costa Filho. \nProf. Antonio José da Costa Filho is a full Professor in the Department of Physics at the Ribeirão Preto School of Philosophy\, Sciences and Letters of the Universidade de São Paulo (USP)\, where he works at the interface of Physics\, Molecular Biophysics\, and Health Sciences. He received his B.Sc. in Physics from the São Carlos Institute of Physics (USP) (1994)\, and completed his M.Sc. (1997) and Ph.D. (2001) at the same institution\, including a doctoral research period at Cornell University (1998-2001). His academic training established a scientific trajectory focused on the application of advanced physicochemical tools to understand molecular mechanisms in biological systems. He leads the Molecular Biophysics Laboratory\, with research activities centered on protein-membrane interactions\, protein conformational dynamics\, and the organization of biological membranes. \nHis group has contributed to elucidating the physicochemical basis of processes such as protein secretion under cellular stress\, the formation of biomolecular condensates\, and their biotechnological applications\, as well as the molecular mechanisms of drug action. He currently serves as Director of the University of São Paulo Innovation Center in Ribeirão Preto (INOVA USP) and as President of the Brazilian Biophysical Society (2016-2021; 2024-present)\, playing a strategic role in the development of Biophysics in Brazil. He was an Affiliated Member of The World Academy of Sciences (2011-2015) and of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2011-2015). \nThe seminar will take place on Tuesday 30th of June 2026. DESCRIPTION:Kotor\, Montenegro. \nDynamic interplay between the nervous and immune system in neurodegeneration: Biophysico-chemical and innovative aspects \nThis is the 10th School that is traditionally organized every second year in IMBK\, Kotor\, Montenegro. Every school has a different multidisciplinary topic related to biophysics. This time we want to study neurochemical and neurobiophysical relations in neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. Particular attention will be given to innovations in the research field and how to approach translational aspects and marketing. The workshop will be divided in lectures by renown speakers in the field\, young researcher presentation\, students talks on “What do I do in my real life”\, student poster presentations and Panel discussion with Q&A on elected subjects for the faculty. The students will also have the opportunity to learn from hands-on sessions on neurotoxicology\, subcellular immunocytochemistry and atomic absorption spectroscopy on neural tissue.
