SUMMARY:IUPAB International workshop on Biophysics (10th NERKA)
DESCRIPTION:Kotor\, Montenegro. \nDynamic interplay between the nervous and immune system in neurodegeneration: Biophysico-chemical and innovative aspects \nThis is the 10th School that is traditionally organized every second year in IMBK\, Kotor\, Montenegro. Every school has a different multidisciplinary topic related to biophysics. This time we want to study neurochemical and neurobiophysical relations in neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. Particular attention will be given to innovations in the research field and how to approach translational aspects and marketing. The workshop will be divided in lectures by renown speakers in the field\, young researcher presentation\, students talks on “What do I do in my real life”\, student poster presentations and Panel discussion with Q&A on elected subjects for the faculty. The students will also have the opportunity to learn from hands-on sessions on neurotoxicology\, subcellular immunocytochemistry and atomic absorption spectroscopy on neural tissue. The equipment and infrastructure for these experiments are available at IMBK. \nThe workshop will be held at the Institute for Marine Biology in Kotor. DESCRIPTION:Kotor\, Montenegro. \nInternational Biophysical School “Academician Radoslav K. Andjus” (NERKA) was established in honor of Professor R.K. Andjus (1926-2003)\, an internationally recognized scientist from the University of Belgrade\, a member of Montenegrin and Serbian academies of sciences and arts\, and one of the founders of the Institute for Marine Biology in Kotor. \nThe international scientific meeting 10th International Biophysics School “Academician Radoslav K. Andjus” (NERKA 10)\, will be held from 1 to 5 September 2026 in Kotor\, Montenegro. The University of Belgrade – Faculty of Biology is the co-organizer. \nThe NERKA School has a long tradition and brings together prominent international researchers in the fields of neurobiology\, biophysics and neuroimmunology. This year’s meeting will be dedicated to the topic “Dynamic interplay between the nervous and immune systems in neurodegeneration”\, with a special focus on biophysical-chemical and innovative approaches. \nApplications accepted by mail until July 1st\, 2026.

It brings together theorists and experimentalists from physics\, biology\, and synthetic life to explore topics such as stochastic thermodynamics\, metabolic networks\, and non-equilibrium dynamics\, with the goal of uncovering fundamental design principles of life-like systems. \nRegistration & practical info:\nThe workshop follows a long-stay format (2 weeks) to encourage deep collaboration and interaction\nParticipation is limited to around 40 participants per week \nFunding / support:\n\nThe organizers provide partial financial support\, including a contribution to local costs (€80/day) and assistance with accommodation
