Application for an EBSA Bursary for a working visit
Applicants are asked to carefully read the following notes before filling out the application form (at the bottom of this page)
Eligible applicants are:
- Ph.D. students registered in an EBSA Member Country
- Postdoctoral fellows working in an EBSA Member Country
- At least one of the applicant, the Supervisor from the outgoing institution, or the local Supervisor during the working visit should be member of an EBSA Member Society
Visits should be to an EBSA Member Country that is not the base country of the applicant. The base country is the country where the applicant is carrying out their research, and/or where they are registered for a Ph.D. Previous recipients of EBSA bursaries are eligible for new awards, but not within 24 months of the end of the previous award and not if they have failed to submit a report of the previous visit. Bursaries are considered for working visits in the field of Biophysics. Working visits are expected to last from 1 to 10 weeks, depending on the individual case. The bursary is to be used to contribute to the cost of travel and subsistence, namely accommodation. The bursaries are not salaries, and cannot be used towards the cost of research.
The bursary will provide up to €200/week, plus a contribution towards travel costs. The total amount should not exceed €1000. Travel is expected to be by low-cost airline, train or bus. Payment will be carried out in a single bank transfer, during the working visit.
The awarding of bursaries will be decided by the Awards Committee, within the financial framework provided by the EBSA Executive Committee. Applications must be received at least 2 months prior to the start of the event, taking into consideration the following three annual cut-off dates for evaluation:
- 31st of January
- 31st of May
- 30th of September
The Awards Committee will have the final say for decisions concerning eligibility, scientific merit of the application and the level of support. The Awards Committee may ask the applicants to provide supplementary clarifications or to modify the proposals. In case of a dispute about procedure, the EBSA Executive Committee will have the final decision.
EBSA must be acknowledged in any publications resulting from this work. In addition, all recipients of an EBSA Bursary are required to submit a brief report (1 page maximum) describing the achievements during the visit. The report must be received by the Chair of the EBSA Bursary Panel within 2 months of the end of the award. All correspondence will be carried out by e-mail, in English.
EBSA Bursary for working visit applications should be sent to the Chair of the EBSA Bursary Panel, Prof. Nuno C. Santos (nsantos@medicina.ulisboa.pt).
